One of the first Chinese restaurants in Buffalo — and still owned by the Leong family — venerable May Jen Chinese Restaurant has been around since 1981. This pretty little restaurant near the South Campus of the University at Buffalo features popular Chinese dishes as well as lesser-known, authentic Chinese items. Starters include sesame cold noodles, scallion pancakes and a variety of house-made dumplings. Vegetarians will welcome the more than one dozen meatless dishes, and meat lovers can select from beef, pork, chicken, duck and seafood options. Local favorites include the ginger garlic chicken and the walnut prawns.
