Since 1992, jack-of-all-trades pastry chef and owner Alon Balshan has offered fresh artisanal breads, decorative and scrumptious desserts, gourmet lunches and dinners, as well as a wide selection of locally and globally produced artisanal cheeses from his North Highland (and now Dunwoody) bakeries. The mouthwatering desserts rest in large display cases; the freshly baked breads cool on racks. And the best part? Every single delectable offering is made from scratch. For breakfast, a variety of fruits and sweets can be found in danishes, muffins, pound cakes, coffee cakes, scones, strudels and croissants. For lunch, house-prepared chicken, beef and fish dishes are available along with deli salads and sides such as mashed sweet potatoes, roasted root vegetables, and black bean and fresh corn salad. Dessert just might be the best part, though, from Heath bar-crusted brownies to apple Normandy (a sugar crust filled with apricot marmalade and house-made custard, topped with fresh apples and streusel).
"Baked goods, including some of the best breads, croissants and danish
in town, are the stuff that make Alon's reputation, but the hummus, egg
salad, pasta salads, and other prepared dishes are top drawer as well."
