The relocated Marakesh Cafe & Grill offers beautifully presented Middle Eastern and Mediterranean delights, both hearty meat dishes as well as plenty of vegetarian specialties. They include appetizers such as grape leaves wrapped around rice or silky smooth hummus dip made from garbanzo beans, garlic and lemon. While the lunch menu features salads and sandwiches, such as tabouli salad or the popular lamb gyro sandwich, dinner serves up more substantial offerings. One fine example is shawarma
, beef or chicken roasted with onions and served with saffron rice, fresh parsley, tahini, salad, yogurt sauce and pita bread. A vegetarian favorite is the falafel plate made with garbanzo beans, onions, parsley, bell peppers and a side of tahini that comes with a green bean salad, hummus and fresh baked pita bread. Desserts include baklava with walnuts, which pairs well with the refreshing mint tea.
"Marakesh is the brainchild of Samir Saadeh, a native of Palestine who opened the restaurant in the fall of 1999, and the flavors are exquisite and authentic. The menu is very complete, and encompasses most of the favored dishes of the Middle East, with a few thrown in from Morocco and Greece as well."
