Nationally known for her jungle salsa and Thai spicy peanut sauce (featured on the Today show), Foo Swasdee has been serving Asian cuisine to grateful Austin residents at Satay for more than 25 years. With influences from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam and the Philippines, Swasdee's MSG-free delicacies are as healthy as they are delicious. Her kitchen is filled with only the freshest ingredients (vegetables, herbs, canola and vegetable oils) used to prepare a variety of vegan and vegetarian dishes, as well as many delectable meats such as the chicken satay, a specialty chicken appetizer of thinly sliced pieces of white meat served on a skewer and brushed with coconut milk and curry marinade. The accompanying chili-peanut sauce enhances the spicy flavor of the chicken. Be sure to share with your tablemates because you'll need room for local favorites, such as the pad siam with shrimp, bean thread noodles, green onions with a subtle sauce and ground peanuts, served with bean sprouts and shredded cabbage. For dessert, don't miss the piping hot banana fritters surrounded by a cake-like crust and topped with whipped cream and honey.

"Spice fanatics should steer toward the pud ped ga-prao with beef, basil and chili peppers."
