Dewey's Pizza owner Andrew DeWitt teamed with college pal and former Palomino Euro Bistro Chef Max Monks in 1999 to open Habanero, a distinctive Latin American-inspired restaurant in the Gaslight District of Clifton. Warm colors, minimalist décor, a few tables and several booths make diners feel right at home. Burritos top the menu. Recommended is the Mad Max platter, stuffed with fried fish, pinto beans, rice, cheddar cheese, lettuce and cabbage, then finished with a cool, creamy white sauce. A meatless option is the Chuba Cabre, stuffed with cinnamon-spiced roasted squash or sweet potato with pinto beans, rice and lettuce, accompanied by apple and chile salsa. You can also build your own burrito or soft taco by choosing from a variety of toppings, tortillas and meats such as steak, chicken, pork and fish.
"... regulars will tell you it's all about the burritos at Habanero."
