Best French

Co-owner and chef Cindy Wolf completed much of her culinary training in Charleston, S.C., but regulars swear she must be a Parisian at heart. Wolf’s cozy bistro, which opened in 2000, offers all of the glamour of upscale French bistro dining, from an extensive wine list — Wolf and business partner/husband Tony Foreman also own the popular wine shop Bin 604 — to marble tabletops and buttery escargot, with a noticeable absence of snootiness. Instead, the attentive staff is more than happy to explain, if necessary, that Coquilles St. Jacques are sea scallops, and haricots verts are green beans. Bistro comfort favorites abound, from steak frites (featuring the often-lauded garlic fries) to quiche and croque monsieur, a melted ham and cheese sandwich. More elaborate entrées can include rainbow trout, duck leg confit and pork tenderloin. For dessert, the decadent chocolate mousse is not to be missed. A three-course, prix fixe menu is offered for lunch.

Full bar. Serving lunch Tue–Fri, dinner nightly. Sun brunch 10:30 am–2 pm. Closed between meals.

"... as good as a trip to your favorite Parisian wine bar, complete with confit de canard, trout almandine, coquilles St-Jacques and steak frites."
