Get there early and prepare to wait in line at Doug Sohn's perennially popular lunchtime hot dog joint, Hot Doug's. And don't even think about sending a member of your party to save seats. This is forbidden. But as the signs attest, the system has a way of working itself out: By the time you're through the line, someone is bound to be finished eating. Their Chicago-style hot dog is textbook perfection with fresh tomato, sport peppers, a pickle spear and alarmingly bright green relish. Don't shy away from the sausages or the daily specials, though, such as a stellar wild boar sausage topped with crispy onions. The fresh cut fries don't disappoint either. Duck fat fries are available Friday and Saturday.
Cash only. No alcohol available. Serving lunch 10:30 am–4 pm Mon–Sat. Closed Sun.
"With his buzz cut, black horn-rimmed glasses and on-target one-liners, Sohn ... looks and acts more like a
Saturday Night Live cast member than the successful entrepreneur of Hot Doug's, a one-of-a-kind hot dog stand. And Saturday's 500-plus customers who wait patiently in line braving the weather are almost as appreciative of Sohn's one-minute monologues as his crazy concoctions."
