Best Sandwiches

Cleverly laying the movie Mob shtick on thick, Marco’s Italian Deli is where appetizers are served family-style and sandwiches are called "sangwiches," with names like Forget About It and the Don Corleone. In keeping with the movie set theme, the red brick building houses movie stills from The Godfather, a vintage Coke machine, hanging sausages and cheeses, and a glass counter filled with desserts and jars of pickles and peppers. Sandwiches are all gargantuan and have wise-guy names. Sammy the Bull is roast beef, provolone, lettuce, onion and tomato with horseradish mayo. (There are at least four different kinds of mayo made in-house daily, such as chili or tomato basil). Panini sandwiches include the Bobby Bacula, which is made with tuna, Swiss cheese, tomato, red onion and chipotle mayo. Burgers include The Elmwood, The Donny Brasco, The Soprano, The Chazz and Hey Sonny, all made with a third of a pound of ground beef and assorted toppings.

Kids' menu. No alcohol available. Serving lunch and dinner Mon–Sat. Closed Sun.

"Before this visit, I had never had a Forget About It sandwich. Trouble is, I can't forget about it. Just before noon every day I start to think about that sandwich with its warm roll, perfectly sliced turkey, toothsome red peppers and the slow and low burn that comes from them when they are combined with the chili mayo."
