One of the Mississippi Gulf's most popular seafood spots, Half Shell Oyster House boasts locations in Gulfport and Biloxi (and one in Florida as well). A variety of burgers, steaks and pastas are available, but the oysters are clearly the star of the show, with char-broiled oysters with butter and herb sauce as the signature preparation.
From the restaurant's website:
"Welcome to Half Shell Oyster House! A new place with an old, classic feel. pictured to the left is our first location in the Historic Kremer Building in Downtown Gulfport. We have since opened in Biloxi MS and on Main St. in downtown Sarasota Florida. We are open for lunch and dinner with great happy hour specials. Come try the fresh, hand-shucked oysters..char-broiled on an open flame, Rockefeller on the Half Shell & much more. Plus, delicious seafood specialties, steaks, pasta, po-boys and salads."
"These are Louisiana oysters, mild and easier for a rookie than those from colder waters, where they acquire flavors that can be deeply mineral-saline in flavor. On the half-shell, they were unusually large and extremely fresh. And the Half Shell is not just for raw oysters, either; we loved the Bienvilles, topped with a creamy sauce studded with small chunks of seafood, the flavors dancing together."
