DETAILS

Turning out thin-crust brick-oven pizza since 1926, Pizzeria Regina is an old-school landmark in Boston's North End. Regina's tosses a mean dough and then covers it with all manner of toppings and cooks it to your specifications. The original location on Thacher Street is a small corner spot, tucked away on a side street and always jammed with locals and visitors alike. The cracked red vinyl booths and nostalgic photos, paired with the signature gruff-but-fun service, make Regina's a great place to grab a pitcher of beer and a pie. Cooked in a century-old brick oven, these pizzas have thin, crisp crusts and a great array of toppings. Try the melanzane or the spinaci and pomodoro, and order a side of the house-made sausage, too. The wine list is limited, but what more could you want other than a straw-covered bottle of Chianti? Regina's has branches throughout the Boston area, but nothing beats the always-busy North End original.

Beer and wine available. Serving lunch and dinner daily. Late-night Fri-Sat. "Stay away from the mall franchises - the original Pizzeria Regina, wedged into a corner on a residential side street away from the bustle of the commercial North End, is home to some of the best pizza in greater Boston, if not all of New England."
- Gayot
