Luchita's

Average Cost: $$

Phone: 216-252-1169

Categories: Mexican

Features: Full Bar , Handicap Access , Kid Friendly , Smoke Free , Vegetarian Friendly

From a regional tamale of the day, to chicken in a chocolaty mole sauce and some house-made sangria, real-deal Mexican cuisine awaits at Luchita's various Cleveland-area locations. Proprietress Luchita Galindo and son Jorge opened the restaurant's first outpost in an unassuming corner bar on West Side's 117th Street in 1981 and have wowed customers ever since. At lunchtime, expect superlative renditions of tacos, burritos, enchiladas and fajitas. The dinner menu makes way for the more authentic stuff. Start with a bowl of sopa azteca, chicken broth with rice, shredded chicken, avocado and tomato, or a refreshing calamari and shrimp ceviche. Besides chicken mole, specialties include rajas con pollo (chicken, potato, onion and poblano peppers simmered in a white wine- and cream-based salsa) and cerdo en salsa verde (pork cubes, zucchini and potatoes simmered in salsa).

"This Cleveland original has become more sophisticated with time, adding culinary delights to the usual Tex-Mex offerings."
- Emmett Smith, The Plain Dealer, April 22, 2010 Full bar. Serving lunch Tue-Fri, dinner Tue-Sun. Closed Mon.
