DESCRIPTION
Some 300 years ago, one of the Lords Baltimore bestowed these breathtaking grounds in Columbia to the Reverend James Macgill, whose family maintained them for more than two centuries, even rebuilding the mansion after a devastating fire in the 1870s. In the 1960s, the building was converted into the fine-dining restaurant The Kings Contrivance and quickly became one of the go-to spots for a romantic meal or special occasion, offering American Contemporary cuisine in an elegant atmosphere.
"It was one of the first restaurants in the area to offer Continental dining, and now is one of the last. There's a sense of a different era about this place, even though the 1890s mansion has just gone through a major renovation to make it seem as fresh as a shiny new penny."
- Elizabeth Large, The Baltimore Sun
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Full bar. Reservations suggested. Serving lunch Mon-Fri, dinner nightly. Sun brunch 11 am-2 pm.
