The quintessential local ice cream shop for more than a generation, Bonnie Brae Ice Cream even keeps a bowl of water on the front porch for passing neighborhood dogs. A handful of tables inside and out make enough room for a small customer base stopping in for a scoop or two. But during the warmer months, interior space is entirely dedicated to housing out-the-door lines, often three-people thick. Patrons come in droves for the creamy, custard-thick ice cream made by owners Judy and Ken Simon and Cindy and Bob Pailet. House-made favorite flavors include deep-dish apple pie, Gran Marnier chocolate, amaretto and peppermint. Serious sweet tooths can have theirs swirled with Snickers bars as well.
