Best Thai

Sala Thai opened its first location in 1994 in Lafayette Park, but in 2002, the owners moved the restaurant inside historic Firehouse No. 5 on Russell Street. The second location upgraded from an Oakland mall food court to a strip mall on 14 Mile Road, and a third location opened on Lafayette Street. Each location's décor is reminiscent of the reed and bamboo houses in Thailand. Thai favorites on the menu include pad thai and other noodle dishes, tom yum and tom kha soups, spring rolls and shrimp rolls, and gaeng gai (chicken curry). At the downtown location, Sala Thai's menu has expanded to include sushi. All of the traditional rolls and nigiri are served alongside a large selection of Americanized rolls. The crunch roll has crabmeat, mayonnaise and asparagus, and the Hi Life Roll contains avocado, crabmeat, cucumber, sour cream, crispy potato chips and scallions and is served with a potato chip "sail."

Full bar. Serving lunch and dinner daily.

"The food equally lives up to the authentic atmosphere."
