Best Oysters

First opened in 1985, popular seafood spot Tom's Oyster Bar has added another location in Royal Oak. Framed magazine covers on the wall, dark wooden floors and furniture, and a tin ceiling complete Tom's signature dark-saloon atmosphere. Oysters and seafood are flown in from all around the country to provide the variety at Tom's Oyster Bar. Daily specials are listed on blackboards around the restaurant and are erased as guests gobble them up. In addition to oysters, popular dishes include smoked mackerel, trout, calamari, blackened halibut, and Cajun dishes such as shrimp Creole and jambalaya. House specialties include crab cakes, oyster pan roasts and sautéed grouper. The same cook has made Tom's Key lime pie for more than 20 years, and locals praise its authentic southern Florida flavor.

Full bar. Serving lunch and dinner daily. Late-night Fri–Sat. Closed Sun during spring and summer months, so call ahead.

"Oysters on the half shell are spotlighted, of course, but there are many more sea creatures to choose from. Surprisingly, the pasta dishes and a good, old-fashioned hamburger are worth trying, too."
