When local diners want a break from standard Fort Lauderdale fare, they head to Sunrise Boulevard where the inconspicuous, highly original Canyon turns out some of Broward’s trendiest and tastiest food. The tiny dining room maintains a lounge feel, with dim lighting and excited decibel levels hampering casual conversation. But that’s beside the point when a delicious prickly pear margarita is in hand and a spread of four-star eats is before you. A Southwestern menu with perceptible Asian, South and Central American undertones boasts such inventive appetizers as spice-dusted bison skewers, smoked salmon tostadas and blue corn fried oysters. Soul-warming entrée standbys such as beef tenderloin tip burritos and jalapeño jumbo shrimp complement a similarly inventive list of daily specials.
