What better place to enjoy lunch, coffee and dessert or a light Friday night meal in the Cultural District, than the idyllic setting of architect Louis I. Kahn's richly simplistic and timeless Kimbell Art Museum. The light food at The Buffet Restaurant at the Kimbell is consistent with the airy space within. Afternoon patrons will enjoy sitting at tables surrounded by art pieces selected from top exhibits and taking in the fresh air in the courtyard underneath (hopefully blooming) wisteria. The chalkboard menu from acclaimed chef Shelby Schafer changes frequently and includes salads, soups, quiches, pastas and sandwiches. Favorites can include sweet potato and pumpkin soup, poblano and corn chowder, asparagus quiche, smoked turkey and rice, mixed greens, dilled vegetables and rice, spiced beets, and fresh fruit. Dessert is offered mid-to-late afternoons — arrive early for the best selection.
