Big City Diner

808-487-8188  •  $$
ADDRESS: 98-211 Pali Momi St, Pearlridge East Shopping Center , Aiea, HI 96701

CUISINE: American Traditional, Breakfast, Hawaiian Regional, Diner, Burgers, Home-style, Sandwiches, Brunch

FEATURES: Full Bar, Handicap Access, Kid Friendly, Patio Seating, Smoke Free, Vegetarian Friendly

DETAILS
The original location is covered in 100-plus-year-old photographs of the historic Kaimuki neighborhood, but the rest of the steadily growing local collection of family restaurants maintain a community feel with extensive menus of classic "local comfort food." That means American traditional fare gets a Pacific-Asian makeover: Rice replaces potatoes, fish and sausage supplant bacon, and noodle bowls reign. As with great diners everywhere, though, breakfast is served all day. Try Ani's Awesome Cinnamon Bread French Toast, Uncle Danny's Fried Rice & Eggs, or Grandma's Incredible Kimchee Fried Rice. From pancakes to omelets, if it's a classic morning munchie, BCD's got it. There's even a lighter menu for the health nuts out there. Specialty sandwiches, half-pound burgers and entrées such as meat loaf, guava-glazed barbecued ribs and paniolo chicken salad are among the lunch and dinner specialties. Don't tell Mom we said so, but a couple of appetizers (such as the calamari tempura strips) and an extra-large dessert - can you say Double-Choco Bread Pudding or Big Brownie Bubbies Pie? - will make a full meal any time of day or night. Full bar. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. Late-night Fri-Sat. Sat-Sun brunch 11 am-3:30 pm. "Big City Diner dishes up local food with a lot of self-confidence."
