Giovanni's Shrimp Truck

808-293-1839  •  $$
ADDRESS: 56-505 Kamehameha Highway, Kahuku, HI 96731

CUISINE: Shrimp Truck, Seafood, Hot Dogs

FEATURES: BYOB, Handicap Access, Kid Friendly, Patio Seating, Smoke Free

DETAILS

Quite a ways from the white tablecloths of resort-saturated Waikiki, Oahu's North Shore upholds an equally important Hawaiian dining tradition: shrimp-themed plate lunches sold from various vans parked off of area beaches. Possibly the most famous among them, Giovanni's Original White Shrimp Truck appears as little more than a beat-up, graffiti-covered van off Kamehameha Highway. The half-dozen or dozen prawns dripping in sauce - garlic, lemon butter, or hot and spicy - are accompanied by two scoops of rice and a lemon, making it the ideal pre- or post-beach meal.

Cash only. No alcohol available. BYOB. Serving during lunch and early dinner hours (10:30 am-6:30 pm) daily. "Arguably the least attractive of the North Shore shrimp establishments, the graffiti-covered truck may also be the most well-known. Pull up a plastic chair under the temporary awning and dig in to the most casual shrimp scampi meal you've ever ordered."
