DETAILS

Originally the property of Hawaii's ruling family, The Willows, in historic residential Moiliili, has long been home to the island's most luxurious private picnics and luaus. Hard times during World War II forced the estate's then-owners to convert their beautiful grounds to a public eatery, yet "Hawaii's Original Garden Restaurant" maintains a sense of exclusivity with its picturesque setting of fish ponds, lush foliage and thatch-roof gazebos (recently un-thatched for fire regulation purposes). A several-year remodeling hiatus in the mid-1990s added a wedding chapel and a handful of air-conditioned private dining areas. But it's The Willows' much sought-after lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch buffets that draw droves of locals seeking one-stop seafood, marinated meats, sushi and Hawaiian specialties. Not-to-miss items include the curry (chicken or shrimp), lau lau (steamed ti leaves filled with pork, butterfish and taro tops) and Korean barbecue ribs. In true luau tradition, a whole, crispy-skinned suckling pig is served nightly. Stop by the dessert station to create your own sundae or to indulge in the daily selection of pies and cakes. Budget-conscious diners should know that the lunch buffet offers similar fare to the dinner and Sunday brunch for a lower price.

Full bar. Serving lunch and dinner daily. Sun brunch 10 am-2:30 pm. "Where locals go to celebrate a special occasion."
