In a town boasting gut-busting burgers, barbecue and big crowds, the Dharma Café provides fresh, healthy options and a much-needed dose of tranquility. The calm, casual atmosphere and laid-back, friendly service befit the Buddhism-inspired theme here. It's the perfect place to sip on coffee and peruse one of their books: Reflect upon the works of Kesey, Kerouac, Ginsberg or other writers sharing the same tenuous relationship with Eastern religion. Though the word "dharma" has many different meanings, co-owners John Gurney and Susan Ralph interpret it as "The spiritual work that you do in your life to return to yourself, your center." For them, this means cooking and serving their friends (lucky for us!). Start with a blue cheese pizza or a tomato caprese salad. Entrées include cedar-planked salmon with a pomegranate marinade, seared giant sea scallops with curry coconut sauce, and a pasta of the day. The Dharma Café draws a crowd for Sunday brunch, offering house-made cinnamon rolls, pancakes, eggs made-to-order and a complimentary mimosa.
Full bar. Serving lunch Tue–Fri, dinner Tue–Sat. Sun brunch 10 am–2 pm. Closed Mon.
"Wraps, salads and pasta dishes are solid at lunch; steaks and seafood are excellent at dinner. Don’t miss the key lime pie — it’s arguably the best in the city."
