THIS RESTAURANT CLOSED JANUARY 2012
With an old warehouse/storefront setting and a wine list displayed via chalkboard, Gravitas in Midtown defines trendy eating for Houston foodies. Renowned chef/owners Scott Tycer and (since departed) Jason Gould intended their modern American bistro to make just that impression when they opened with a bang just a few years back, and their popularity has endured. If one can judge a restaurant by its bread, then the sourdough rolls from sister establishment Kraftsmen Baking boast of the good, fresh things to come. Bistro classics to the tune of roasted chicken, steak frites and mussels lead the pack for main courses, though the excellent version of gnocchi or even sampling an assortment of appetizers - a goat cheese tart, venison chili and tempura fried oysters, for example - is hard to beat.
Full bar. Serving lunch Mon-Fri, dinner nightly. Sun brunch 10:30 am-2:30 pm.
"An open kitchen and a hip, warehouse feel with bare bricks and concrete floors keep this place hopping at all times with the chic set."- Houston Press
