Part of downtown Indianapolis' sports-charged renaissance, Coaches Tavern has been a pub of some sort since the 1940s. Its recent resurgence serves as a homage to coaches at all levels, with photographs on the walls that honor the greats, from the legendary Knute Rockne to Indianapolis high school coaches. Better-than-average, hands-on bar fare includes the regulars — nachos, wings, salsa and chips, crab dip, burgers, French dip sandwiches, and the like — as well as healthy alternatives such as hummus and pita.
