DETAILS

Occupying a 1920s Mediterranean-style home, Mama Carolla's Old Italian Restaurant is a little piece of the old country in the big city. Rambling, intimate rooms with stucco walls and soft lighting set a romantic mood that carries outside into the walled gardens and patio. Inspired by the ethnic neighborhood joints in their hometown of Omaha, owners Carole and Howard Leuer's menu doesn't veer far from the beaten path, but the basics are done well. Classic Italian fare, such as chicken rigatoni, can be spiced up or down according to preference. For dessert, try the ricotta cake with berries, or the cannoli.

Full bar. Serving dinner Tue-Sat. Closed Sun-Mon. "Grilled shrimp stuffed with goat cheese is a must starter, but smoked mozzarella bruschetta is also hard to pass by. Still in the mood for seafood? Order the misto mare - plenty of shrimp, mussels, scallops and crab in a spicy tomato sauce generously cover tender linguine."
