Here is the short version. Through the vision and direction of Bishop Vaughn McLaughlin, in November 2002 the Potter''s House Ministry took possession of a 48-acre, 376,000 square feet shopping complex formerly known as Normandy Mall. Today it is known as ‘Kingdom Plaza’.  This restaurant was at another location for seven years before moving to Kingdom Plaza. The Soul Food Bistro along with all of the other businesses in the mall are owned and operated by church members."

Chef Emanuel's Blog, Dec. 12, 2011

"Right now, the chosen ones reside at Soul Food Bistro. ... Local legend has it that the bistro grew out of the grand food served by the patrons of the church after services. … Soon, word of the stellar fried chicken and collard greens spread and neighbors wanted in, so they opened a café … . Service was prompt and friendly and everybody in the joint seems to know each other. I can see why. When there is a Soul Food Bistro in the neighborhood, there is no reason to go anywhere else.
