DETAILS
At Jerusalem Cafe, health-conscious eaters love the Middle Eastern and Mediterranean entrées made with fresh herbs, vegetables and meats accompanied by warm house-made pita bread. Vegetarians also find lots to savor. Starters include the popular falafel, hummus and baba ganoush, as well as the more exotic flaming cheese and rice-stuffed grape leaves. Gyros and shawarma are available either as sandwiches or entrées and are served on or with pita, with spiced rice and with soup or a Greek salad. If you can't commit to one dish, you can order the Jerusalem dinner feast, which comes with three appetizers, four entrées and dessert. The bohemian crowd feels at home listening to the café's Arabic music in the mismatched and well-worn booths while sipping Turkish coffee or herbal tea and eating the flaky baklava for dessert. No alcohol available. Serving dinner Mon-Sat. Late-night Fri-Sat. Closed Sun. "The closest thing Kansas City has to a Middle Eastern diner, the comfortable and casual Jerusalem Café has been a favorite spot for many vegetarians. Yes, there's plenty of creamy hummus, baba ghanoush and pita bread to devour. However, the kitchen also sends out tasty kabobs on a bed of lightly spiced rice."
