You won't get much argument by proclaiming Shields Manor Bistro the Kansas City area's most romantic restaurant.
From the restaurant's website:
"Being nestled behind a large pine tree with little signage has not
stopped guests from finding this unique establishment. For 10 years,
word of mouth has led customers to this elegant, award-winning
restaurant owned by Max and DeDe Shields. The cuisine embodies exactly
what is so appealing in a fine restaurant where quality fresh seafood
and hand-cut meats are the best way to serve their 'house guests.' The
culinary garden on the premises delights guests with wonderful flavors
and samples to take home."
"DeDe and Max Shields invite diners into their home, a
150-plus-year-old building on the courthouse square in Platte City where
two rooms - the Parlor and the Den - in the lower level have been
converted into intimate, romantic dining spaces. ... The menu, mind you,
is short. Not to be missed is the signature appetizer of fat shrimp
served in a creamy blue cheese sauce. Beyond that, expect four or five
entrées: steak au poivre in a brandy cream sauce or pork tenderloin with
a raspberry-chipotle sauce, for example."
