Yuca's

2056 Hillhurst Ave
Los Angeles, CA 90027

Average Cost: $

Phone: 323-662-1214

Categories: Burritos, Burgers, Hot Dogs, Mexican

Features: BYOB, Handicap Access, Kid Friendly, Patio Seating, Smoke Free, Vegetarian Friendly

As burritos continue to increase in girth nationwide — filled to the brim with sour cream, excessive amounts of rice and multiple kinds of salsa — Yuca’s flatter tacos and burritos may seem small and simple by comparison. What they lack in size, however, they more than make up for in taste and roadside taco-stand authenticity. (And let’s face it: Those monster burritos elsewhere aren’t doing wonders for your acting/modeling career.) Founded in 1976 by Jaime and Socorro Herrera, this famed taqueria — a former James Beard Foundation America's Classics Award winner — remains family-owned and -operated and still offers only a few outdoor tables despite receiving glowing reviews from the likes of The New York Times, GQ and even the most influential economic force in the country, Oprah. Popular burritos (with beans and salsa) and tacos (with salsa) include the carne asada, carnitas (shredded pork) and cochinita pibil (Yucatan-style pork).

Cash only. No alcohol available. BYOB Serving lunch and early dinner 11 am–6 pm Mon–Sat. Closed Sun.

Zagat 2011: 23 food rating (very good to excellent)

James Beard Foundation: America's Classics Award, 2005

“The Herrera family's stand, with its Yucatan-Mayan culinary roots, has been a favorite with cops and foodies alike.”
