Thriving, locally based Mark's Feed Store has grown to several Louisville-area locations. The original, on Dixie Highway, is actually a former feed store, which accounts for the name. Mark's, a regular winner of local "best barbecue" competitions, draws rave reviews for its lean, smoky baby back ribs, which are "guaranteed fallin' off the bone," as well as for its chicken and pork. The rich, well-seasoned burgoo - a Kentucky-hallmark hearty stew of meat and vegetables - is also a winner. The spicy barbecue sauce, with a dab of mustard, is a nod to South Carolina-style barbecue, but a red version is available as well.
"The pork on the moderately sauced ribs fairly drops from its bones."
