DETAILS

Not much has changed at the Twig and Leaf since 1941. The vintage neon sign out front has earned near-iconic status over the years, pointing locals to this neighborhood retro diner, affectionately referred to as "The Twig." The classic black, white and chrome color scheme still dominates the tiny dining room, while a curmudgeonly staff — decidedly more tattooed and pierced than their 1950s equivalents — still serves up a traditional diner-style menu of highly affordable blue plate specials and always-available breakfast items. Whether brunching on weekend mornings or calling it a night after a Friday or Saturday on the town (when the place is open 24-hours), locals pack in for endless cups of coffee and fixtures such as country-fried steak, catfish po-boys and quarter-pound burgers. Lunch and dinner, however, take a back seat to the outstanding list of American breakfast favorites, served all day long. From country ham to breakfast quesadillas, all the standards are there, with omelets sized by a two- or three-egg criterion and "twig taters," aka hash browns, as addictive as ever. À la carte pancakes, eggs and bacon make super-sizing breakfast easy and affordable. No matter what time of day, don’t forget to stop by the dessert and ice cream bar for malts, shakes and, of course, sundaes.

No alcohol available. Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. Open 24 hours Fri–Sat.
