From Rosalind Guy, The Memphis Daily News:

"Gus's Fried Chicken was founded in the 1950s by Napoleon Bonner. Bonner opened the original restaurant in Mason on the town square as Maggie's Side Order. The name was later changed to Gus's after Napoleon and Maggie's son, Vernon 'Gus' Vanderbilt Bonner, inherited the restaurant after his parents' death."

"Gus's Chicken is still perfect, crisp golden-brown on the outside, moist and succulent on the inside, and salted and seasoned with just enough cayenne pepper to let you know it's there."
