This Twin Cities landmark began in 1944 as a humble neighborhood
bread-baking establishment but has grown steadily to also offer
elaborate cakes and delectable pastries. Now with several area
locations, you’re sure to get your breadbasket filled or your sweet
tooth sated no matter where you are. Breads run the gamut from artisan
loaves of French to hearty cracked wheat to Irish soda or braided
challah. Various pastries include apple strudel, cherry cheese crowns
and sticky buns with caramel. Croissants, muffins, coffeecakes, cake and
yeast doughnuts, cookies, and the bakery’s signature Brownie Enormous
also highlight the extensive menu of baked goods. Featured wedding cakes
include traditional white-on-white spectacles ascending as many as
seven tiers. The shop also bakes marzipan tortes and white chocolate
wonders upon which the chocolate itself is molded into roses, orchids
and other surprising arrangements. A number of specialty coffees are
offered to wash it all down.
