Categories: Contemporary , Bistro , Brunch , Crab Cakes , Southern

Features: Full Bar , Handicap Access , Smoke Free , Vegetarian Friendly

Housed in a sleekly restored building in the historic Germantown district just north of downtown, co-owners Chris Lowry and the late Jay Luther's Germantown Café seems to just keep getting better with age since its 2003 debut. The restaurant features a simple, seasonal menu of French- and Southern-inspired American bistro fare, which can include French onion soup, escargots, steak salad, crab cakes, herb-crusted skate served with sweet potato risotto and asparagus, flat iron steak with mashed potatoes, and the restaurant's signature marinated pork tenderloin medallions finished with a plum sauce. Don't feel too sanctimonious for ordering the veggie plate, which is among the best in town, featuring a delicious garlic-marinated portobello mushroom with butternut squash gratin, spinach and asparagus. Stars of the Sunday brunch: crab cakes Benedict and shrimp and grits. "The menu's full of such Southern classics as fried green tomatoes and Gulf shrimp sautéed in Cajun butter."
- Gayot Full bar. Serving lunch Mon-Sat, dinner nightly. Sun brunch 10:30 am-2 pm.
