DETAILS
The Roaring Twenties live on in Nashville, as the speakeasy trend continues. The Holland House opened in early 2010 in East Nashville's up-and-coming Greenwood neighborhood. Yes, that's "the other side of Gallatin Road" for those of you unfamiliar. Every gentrifying neighborhood needs a fancy cocktail bar, right? General manager and head mixologist Terry Raley, formerly of the criminally underrated Ombi, certainly knows his way around a cocktail. Suspender-clad bartenders muddle, infuse, smash, strain, garnish and eventually (patience is required here) produce one mighty fine drink. The libation menu constantly evolves, but some superior selections include the Beatnik (Rye, Amaro CiaCiaro, Madeira and house-made coffee-pecan bitters) and the supremely refreshing Warsaw Mule, with house-made ginger beer. Menu offerings change seasonally as well, but entrees may include pan-seared North Carolina brook trout or the bistro steak with fantastic pommes frites. Happy hour at the HH is one of the best deals in town with well-made $5 classic cocktails (sazeracs, gimlets, pimms cups, Manhattans and the like) and a variety of bar friendly bites such as Nola fried oysters, truffled frites and the Meester Burger. Even better: Happy hour begins again at 10 pm (except on Thursdays, when it runs all night). If high-falutin cocktails aren't your thing, there's also wine as well as a selection of well-chosen high gravity beers. Low-gravity (read: less expensive) beers are now available, too. Admission age 18-and-over 5-9 pm, 21-and-over 9 pm to close. Full bar. Serving dinner Mon–Sat. Closed Sun.
