Jamaican-born owner Ouida Bradshaw and husband David - with son Kamal Kalokoh now the chef - deliver the next best thing to dining in the Caribbean at Jamaicaway restaurant in the newly renovated Farmers' Market. With the restaurant now offering tables in its own enclosed dining area, Jamaicaway's line stays full as you choose from what amounts to well-prepared Southern comfort food, only from way, way south, with liberal use of garlic, Jamaican seasonings and real butter. Recommended entrées include rotisserie jerk chicken (mild or spicy), curry chicken or goat, and jerk salmon. There's also a vegetarian entrée of the day. Sample wonderful Jamaican-favorite sides such as callaloo (greens with tomatoes and onions, good for you and quite addictive), sweet potatoes and pineapple, rice and peas, and fried plantains. And don't miss the raspberry or peach herbal iced tea. Excellent desserts include casava pudding, tropical trifle, plantain tart and carrot cake. There's plenty of picnic-table seating both indoor and out at the market, and takeout is a popular option as well. "The curries - typically chicken, goat, mutton and oxtail - are best ordered with yellow rice; the color comes not from saffron, but from the butternut squash puree Bradshaw adds to the basmati rice."
