Austin Ray, one-half of the young entrepreneurial team that launched now-defunct nightclub scene-setter Bar Twenty3 in downtown's The Gulch in the early 2000s, has another winner on his hands with late-2008 entry M.L. Rose Craft Beer & Burgers. The pub changed its name from The Melrose in March 2012 in anticipation of its sister location, which opened in November 2012 on Charlotte Avenue in the Sylvan Park area of West Nashville. Imagine a neighborhood playground for twentysomethings and thirtysomethings: Christmas lights, Pop-A-Shot Basketball, Ms. Pacman/Galaga, a pool table, hi-def TVs, a dynamite jukebox, and regularly scheduled drink specials, including a two-for-one Thursday night deal that has created a destination spot on the trendy travel circuit. An excellent craft beers selection pairs with better-than-average, rib-sticking pub grub that includes an outstanding locally sourced burger, strip steak sandwich, loaded nachos, Buffalo wings, house-made chili, quesadillas, waffle fries, and house-baked chocolate chunk cookies. "Burgers are one of the highlights of The Melrose. They get their beef from Hillview Farms in Franklin and take the cooking seriously-hitting medium-rare spot on for this occasion."
