CUISINE: Contemporary, Brunch, Farm to Table, French, Italian
FEATURES: Full Bar, Handicap Access, Patio Seating, Smoke Free, Vegetarian Friendly, Pet Friendly
DESCRIPTION
Perennially acclaimed but decidedly unassuming, chef/owner Margot McCormack is easy to spot behind the counter of the open-air kitchen in her self-named, consistently popular Margot Café & Bar in East Nashville's funky Five Points neighborhood. A veteran in the kitchens of first Nashville, then New York, McCormack returned to her hometown to open Margot's in what was once a filling station in 2001. The short menu, which changes daily, reflects her passion for peasant and rustic bistro cooking from France and Italy. It's stellar stuff, notably the entrées, which have included grilled quail with polenta, house-made spaghetti with mussels, and steak au poivre. Save room for dessert, particularly the outstanding ice creams, sorbets and tarts. The Sunday brunch is one of Nashville's most popular (book ahead for patio seats). Stellar coffee that comes delivered in a French press, potent brunch cocktails and a pastry plate (particularly if there is a sticky bun involved) make for a decadent start to your brunch. Entrées typically include standouts such as cornmeal pancakes, the fried egg bruschetta, and steak and eggs, cooked to order.
"There are worse places to be on lazy summer Sundays after church than on McCormack's patio, enjoying a peach Bellini and breaking through the crusty French bread that cradles your poached eggs."
- Gayot
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
Full bar. Serving dinner Tue-Sat. Sun brunch 11 am-2 pm. Closed Mon.
