Now an East Nashville go-to spot, Mitchell Delicatessen positively burst on to the local culinary scene in a March 2008 debut, in the burgeoning McGavock Pike retail block of good things to eat and drink (Sip Cafe, Castrillo's Pizza, Watanabe and nearby Bailey & Cato barbecue and soul food joint). Chef/owner and Nashville native David Mitchell constructed the menu with ex-Family Wash chef Julia Helton, who handles the catering end of things. The results match their considerable talents, with sandwiches, soups, a well-stocked salad bar, and daily hot specials playing their own version of can-you-top-this. Sandwich highlights include roast lamb with mint yogurt sauce, the turkey and brie with cranberry sauce, the grilled chicken with portabella and fresh mozzarella, and the BLT featuring thick slices of bacon from legendary Benton's Smoky Mountain Country Hams in Madisonville, Tenn. A small in-store market includes gourmet candies and fresh produce. There's also a community garden in the courtyard out back.
No alcohol available. Serving breakfast and lunch daily, dinner Mon–Sat.
