DETAILS
Baton Rouge, La., native Mike Elder reprised a longtime Baton Rouge Cajun restaurant called Nooley's in the late 1980s in Franklin, Tenn., and in recent years set up shop in the Nashville Farmers' Market food court, a work-in-progress called the Market House. Specialties include from-scratch versions of Cajun favorites such as po-boys (beef, ham and turkey), muffulettas, shrimp gumbo, and red beans and rice with sausage. Chicken and sausage jambalaya is a Thursday-only special. Everything's born-to-be-mild compared to the Bayou originals you'd get in New Orleans, though, so keep the hot sauce close by. Nooley's promises to add fried shrimp po-boys and house-made onion rings in the future. Louisiana-made Zapp's potato chips are sold as a side. Gumbos also are available by the half-gallon and gallon. No alcohol available. Serving lunch Mon–Sat. Closed Sun. "The heat may have lost a little of its fire somewhere between here and Louisiana, but the olive spread tastes like the real deal."
- Nashville Scene
