It's no wonder the delightful, delicious candies made and sold at downtown's Pralines by Leon remind you of New Orleans. Third-generation candy maker Leon Vlahos' Greek immigrant grandfather Constantine arrived in the Big Easy in 1869, started working in bordellos and soon was concocting pralines, pecan rolls, English toffee and other sweets on the side. Vlahos opened his Nashville candy shop in 1988, and it moved to its present Second Avenue location in 1994. Most of his business is mail order, but it's worth traveling to the source for several varieties of pralines (particularly those flavored with the world-renowned Tennessee whiskey Jack Daniel's), caramels, turtles and English toffee.

Open 10 am–5 pm Mon–Sat. Closed Sun.
