Discerning downtown diners and workers line up at tiny Rae's Gourmet Sandwich Shoppe on Union Street for some of Nashville's best specialty sandwiches. We're partial to the excellent Beastie Girl – a chewy New Orleans-style baguette with slightly rare beef tenderloin, "magic mushroom sauce," cheddar, romaine, tomato and lettuce. Other hot gourmet sandwiches include Rae's Reuben, a hot brown and the Prince Charming, which consists of smoked turkey breast, pepper jack cheese and mild salsa. Daily soup and sandwich specials range from shrimp po-boys and crab cake sandwiches to Cajun gumbo and shrimp bisque. House-made pickles, Zapp's chips on the side and the friendly service are added bonuses.  No alcohol available. Serving lunch Mon–Fri. Closed Sat–Sun.
