Venerable South Nashville restaurant Siam Cafe helped introduce locals to Thai cuisine way back in 1978 and subsequently has opened the more upscale sister restaurant Siam Cuisine on White Bridge Road. We're partial to the cozy dining room - the adjoining buffet should be avoided unless you're in a hurry - at the original McCall location, however, with its low-slung booths and chic-but-spartan décor. The food is similarly impressive at both locations. We can heartily recommend the unusually delicate steamed dumplings; tom ka kai soup (chicken in a coconut-milk broth); pla lard prig (deepfried whole snapper); ginger pork; steamed seafood curry; and a stalwart version of the traditional one-bowl Thai specialty pad thai. Deep-fried banana, custard and coconut ice cream top the short but sweet dessert list. Kid-friendly menu. Beer, wine and sake available. Serving lunch Mon-Sat, dinner nightly.
