DETAILS
East Nashville's Sweet 16th clearly is a labor of love for owner/bakers Dan and Ellen Einstein, a married couple whose annual trips to Paris inspired them to open their own version of a French patisserie (and awaken before dawn five days a week). You'd be hard pressed to find anything that's less than fantastic, but the heavenly breakfast sandwich (a piece of fluffy, peppery egg casserole between two melt-in-your mouth scones) is essential eating on your first visit. Baked goods choices differ by the day and season and are uniformly delicious. Scones, coffeecakes, cakes and muffins usually are on the menu in some form or fashion, however, and Sweet 16th's cupcakes and brownies are little works of art unlike any you've ever eaten from a mix. The menu also includes savory items such as quiche, macaroni and cheese, fresh soup and even a most-excellent vegetarian burrito. There is limited seating in the bakery, with coffee (the reliably tasty Drew's Brews), tea, hot chocolate and various cold drinks offered. No alcohol available. Serving during breakfast and lunch hours Tue–Sat. Closed Sun–Mon.
