DETAILS

Care most certainly did not forget this New Orleans treasure, where James Beard award-winning chef/co-owner Susan Spicer specializes in all things fresh and supreme. Three charming dining rooms await diners, and there's also the patio, which maintains some of its original Creole cottage feel. Spicer's menu is difficult to classify, with unique starters such as oyster gratin or smoked quail salad, and the entrée list always includes a variety of seafood and meat dishes such as the Gulf Coast bouillabaisse and grilled duck breast with pepper jelly. For dessert, you may find frozen lemon bombe with gingersnap crumble and blueberries. Extensive and rare wine list.

Full bar. Serving lunch Wed-Sat, dinner Mon-Sat. Closed Sun. "Since 1990, the historic Creole cottage on Dauphine Street has been Susan Spicer's venue from which to introduce New Orleans to fresh, seasonal cuisine with an eclectic global flair. Don't miss the grilled duck breast with a pepper jelly glaze or her renowned goat cheese croutons with mushrooms in Madeira cream."

-Gambit Weekly

"Susan Spicer was the first New Orleans chef-and still one of the very few-to gain national recognition serving cuisine that didn't spring directly from the Louisiana tradition. ... Bayona has been blending Mediterranean, Creole, Southern, and New American cooking with fresh seasonal ingredients, most of it local. The result: local shrimp arrayed around a black bean cake in coriander sauce, pears and crispy smoked quail in bourbon-molasses dressing, and liver-and-onion-stuffed rabbit roulade-all served in a historic, converted Creole cottage with big, multipaned windows and a lush back patio shaded by palm fronds."
