A step up from hole in the wall but obscure enough to pat yourself on the back for finding it, Moustache serves up some of the freshest jazzed-up versions of Middle Eastern classics around. The tiny, original West Village spot, with its lovely outdoor courtyard and distinctive brass tables, and two sister locations (in the East Village and East Harlem) offer out-of-the-oven pita bread and a version of baba ghanoush that defines the dish like Project Runway
defines style. The trademark "pitzas" are always a hit, but we recommend the excellent lentil soup or any dish with lamb. Service is not the quickest in the city, so plan accordingly.
