Home of Chicken and Waffles in Jack London Square is a retro-style diner celebrating the classic Southern soul food pairing of fried chicken and syrupy waffles, appropriate for any meal of the day. Motown and soul tunes are played during the week, with gospel classics on Sundays, yet the dining room is decorated with futuristic, electric blue barstools and polka dot tile. One of the walls features paintings of chicken and waffle plates and their namesakes: Angie’s Delight includes a fried chicken breast, a waffle and grits; Lord BJ is a half chicken served with two waffles; Amina’s Appetite includes a buckwheat waffle and two sausage patties; and Paige’s Palette includes two chicken wings, an egg and a waffle. Besides chicken and waffles, the restaurant also serves eggs and omelets, biscuits and toast, sandwiches such as chicken salad and a veggie burger, plus salads and soups. A lengthy list of sides includes candied yams, black-eyed peas, home-fried potatoes, cornbread, grits, red beans and rice, and potato salad. Desserts are baked on site.
Kids' menu. Full bar. Serving breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night daily (until 4 am Fri–Sat).
"The menu's numerous named plates are changes wrung on chicken and various combinations of waffles, eggs, grits, Southern vegetables (cooked with smoked turkey instead of pork), and corn bread. ... The place also does chicken livers and gizzards, smothered or fried, but the fried chicken is king."
