Best British

Cheers to George and Dragon English Restaurant and Pub for bringing classic British pub fare to the Valley, one meat-stuffed pastry at a time. Everything, from the TVs airing almost nothing but football (the European kind) to the background buzz of obscure 1980s jams (the kind only a Brit could love), screams English to the core. Between close walls laden with maps of London and similar paraphernalia, patrons gather at the bar for a pint or few of the more than 20 brews imported from across the pond. The separate dining area offers a less boisterous atmosphere but a comparable menu of quick and delicious pub grub — including traditional fish and chips, bangers and mash, and shepherd’s pie. Other specialties include Sunday roast dinners and Scotch eggs. A word to the wise: Since this is one of the few places in town to find the scrumptious fried sausage and egg combo, call ahead to make sure they have some left. You say George and Dragon stays open until 2 am every night? God save the Queen!

Full bar. Serving lunch, dinner and late-night daily.

"There's nothing new in the fish and chips — and that's a good thing. Filets of mild white cod are dipped in a beer batter and deep-fried to crispiness. Huzzah! This is the way cod should be done, with a crust that preserves the tender flakiness inside. The chips, or french fries, are perfectly browned with a rich potato flavor. "
