Downtown Portland’s Mother’s Bistro & Bar features an abundance of ambitious comfort food served in an upbeat, window-ensconced dining room that is jam-packed with tables. Chef/owner Lisa Schroeder takes pride in preparing slow-cooked dishes made from scratch, such as chicken and dumplings, beef pot roast, and meat loaf with gravy. For those who find no comfort in home-style comfort food, the specialty "Mother of the Month" menu represents a collaboration between moms from around the world and features dishes influenced by each of their cultures. Bistro favorites include steak frites. For breakfast, choices include a wild salmon hash or the grilled portobello mushroom and asiago cheese scramble.

Full bar. Serving breakfast and lunch Tue–Sun, dinner Tue–Sat. Closed Mon.

"The ambitious entrée specials celebrate local ingredients as well as showcase Schroeder's training at the Culinary Institute of America."
