DETAILS
Locating a good Mexican place is crucial for some newcomers to a city. You may be surprised that one of Raleigh's most popular Mexican establishments is housed in a rather lackluster strip mall on Creedmoor Road. But don't judge a Mexican joint by its façade: One step into Dos Taquitos - and its slightly more upscale sister restaurant,  Centro - will have you thinking you've run south of the border. Though the dining room is relatively dark - lighted by the candles on the tables for an element of romance - the brightly colored décor, faux tin roofs and a wandering mariachi band reflect the energy and vivacity of Mexican culture. And read the writing on the wall . literally. Graffiti everywhere grabs the kids' attention, while the big kids decide which of the nearly 50 different tequilas to try in their margaritas. Locals line up for the signature taquitos, fresh guacamole and the Enchiladas Puebla (steak, chicken and black bean enchiladas). Everything, right down to the sauces, is made from scratch and likely to satisfy the strongest Mexican cravings. The chips and salsa are particularly tasty. Full bar. Serving lunch Mon-Fri, dinner Wed-Sat. Sat brunch 11 am-2:30 pm. Closed Sun. "... Centro is every bit as kaleidoscopically colorful as the original Dos Taquitos in North Raleigh, but it's hardly a clone. ... while Centro's menu retains a handful of popular dishes from the original restaurant, the seasonally changing offering establishes its own personality with dishes such as chipotle lamb quesadillas, grilled swordfish with pipián sauce, and cilantro-marinated Wagyu skirt steak."
