THIS RESTAURANT CLOSED SEPT. 30, 2011
Bringing the laid-back attitude of the Caribbean to the heart of Midtown, Celestin’s has been a Sacramento favorite since it first opened in 1983. Its digs on K Street (opened in 2001) helped breathe new energy into this come-as-you-are eatery, which now seems even more full of life than before. With reggae tunes jammin’ in the background, locals sip the likes of fresh minty mojitos, passion fruit martinis and house-made sangria while indulging in chef/co-owner Patrick Celestin’s West Indian family recipes. Exotic appetizers such as fried plantains, lamb fritters and shrimp croquettes can make a meal within themselves. Mix-and-match combos include such items as rock shrimp, chicken, andouille sausage, scallops and fresh fish, although the vegetarian option and nightly special are worth your attention as well. Giro (pork medallions marinated in lime and spices) is also a favorite entrée, as is the no-frills jerk burger with sweet potato fries.
Kids' menu. Full bar. Serving lunch Tue–Sat, dinner Tue–Sun. Closed Mon.
"Those looking for a fun night out with friends need search no farther than Celestin's, with its bold colors, cheerful music and friendly staff."
